MD2EPUB — Privacy Policy

MD2EPUB is a browser extension that converts webpages into Markdown or EPUB files. It is built around a simple principle: your content never leaves your device.

Data We Collect

None. MD2EPUB does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data, browsing history, or page content. There are no analytics, no trackers, and no external servers operated by us.

How the Extension Works

• Page conversion happens entirely locally in your browser. The content of a page is read only when you click the extension, and only to produce the Markdown/EPUB file you requested.
• Image embedding (optional): if you choose to embed images into an EPUB, the extension fetches those images directly from their original hosts into memory, packages them into your file, and discards them. Nothing is stored or sent elsewhere.
• Settings (output format, last-used mode, image-embedding preference) are stored locally via Chrome's storage and may sync across your own devices through your Chrome account. We have no access to them.

Google Drive (Optional Feature)

If you choose to use "Save to Google Drive", the extension asks for your authorization through Google's official OAuth flow, using the minimal drive.file scope. This scope only allows the extension to create files in your Drive and access files it created itself — it cannot read, modify, or delete any of your other Drive content. Authentication tokens are managed by Chrome; we never see or store your Google credentials. You can revoke this access at any time at Google Account permissions.

Permissions Explained

• activeTab / scripting: read and convert the current page, only when you click the extension.
• downloads: save generated files to your download folder.
• storage: keep your preferences.
• offscreen: build EPUB files in the background so conversions survive tab switches.
• identity: optional Google Drive authorization.
• Host access (optional, runtime-only): fetch article images for embedding, requested only if you enable that feature.
